Position Summary:

The Senior Scientist RNA Manufacturing will work in a team of scientists to establish RNA manufacturing procedures and analytical testing capabilities for saRNA, mRNA, and circular RNA. The incumbent will play a key role in generating high-quality RNA research materials for animal studies and RNA technology development to support the development of vaccines and RNA technology. The role will also involve supervising lab scientists, planning and overseeing research activities, and working closely with the Janssen CMC team to align on manufacturing and analytical procedures to support the CMC development of vaccine candidates.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Establish manufacturing and testing pipeline for saRNA, mRNA, and/or circular RNA, including LNP formulation.
  • Generate high-quality RNA research materials for animal studies and RNA technology development to support the development of vaccines and RNA technology.
  • Work closely with Janssen CMC to align on manufacturing and analytical procedures. Support CMC development of vaccine candidates.
  • Supervise and work with a team of scientists and support their professional development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of related experience is required.
  • Has a strong sense of quality control.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of English language, extra languages are preferred.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Takes initiative, able to work independently, and flexible.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and adapts to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Process & project management experience.
  • Stays up to date within own area of expertise and takes ownership of own professional development and training plan.

Travel on the Job:

This position requires travel, both domestically and internationally, with an estimated percentage of 1-5%.

People Management Experience:

This position does not require supervisor/people management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Preferred Area of Study: Chemistry/Biology.
  • Hands-on experience in RNA purification and several analytical techniques.
  • Familiar with electronic data capture and a digitalized lab environment.
  • Strong scientific reporting skills (verbal and in writing).

Key Working Relationships:

Internal: Works closely and supports technology teams and disease project teams. Works closely and aligns with CMC.

External: NA.
